Quick Review: Tyranny by Julian Casablancas + the Voidz

This is the sound of a Julian Casablancas who is tired of making pretty, fun rock music.  If you saw his name and thought, “Oh cool, I love the Strokes,” get that out of your mind now.  Tyranny is dark and intentionally disjointed; its mood fluidly jolts from eerie to angry in a dissonant daze.  Jarring electronic beats and gravelly guitars blaze a path through the jungle of capitalism, technology, and war that Casablancas boldly explores, screaming his powerful lyrics at the world.

Recommended tracks: “Where No Eagles Fly” (5), “Father Electricity” (6), “Johan Von Bronx” (7)
