1. Because until history stops repeating itself, our work is never over.
2. Because the fact that we still need to designate a month to celebrate blackness demonstrates in itself shows how much work we have left to do.
3. Because we celebrate whiteness and white history every day in the supremacy systems of our country, but it is not second nature for all citizens to celebrate blackness with the same priority.
4. Because people are still asking why we need a movement called “Black Lives Matter” even when history spells out how black lives have been stolen, violated and devalued.
5. Because black history and black culture are erased every day by the white folks writing our history books.
6. Because whiteness takes over the economic system, the criminal justice system, the incarceration system and all systems and institutions of America, leaving black folks and folks of color marginalized.
7. Because the racist events of today’s society stem from centuries of racial oppression in our own country.
8. Because the phrase “I don’t see color” is used by people to pretend that they aren’t racist.
9. Because students of color on this campus are getting their cars keyed for being anti-racism activists.
10. Because there are still folks on this campus who question if racism exists.
