Constitutional Amendment

Outcome: Approved

Overview: Voters passed an amendment to the state constitution which disallows felons from running for or serving as county sheriff. About 80 percent of voters voted for the amendment. The amendment came about after six felons ran unsuccessfully in the May primary.

Sales Tax Increase

Outcome: Rejected

Overview: For the third time Guilford County voters rejected an increase in sales tax. However, this time the vote was far narrower than was expected. The proposed increase would have set the sales tax to 8 cents per dollar. The current sales tax in Guilford County is 7.75 cents per dollar.
