 Party: Republican

Overview: Incumbent Richard Burr defeated challengers Elaine Marshall (Democrat) and Michael Beitler (Libertarian). One can expect standard conservative voting from Burr. He is for increases in military spending and decreases in international aid, welfare, and the arts. Additionally, Burr is on-record supporting decreases in most taxes.

District 6 Representative: Howard Coble

Party: Republican

Overview: Incumbent Howard Coble beat Democratic challenger Sam Turner. In his 25 year tenure as a representative, Coble has demonstrated his conservative beliefs. He opposes abortion, government-run health care, and the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to the United States for criminal trial. He supports stronger border security including the construction of a border fence, school-led voluntary prayer, and social security reform.

District 12 Representative: Mel Watt

Overview: Incumbent Mel Watt beat challengers Greg Dority (Republican) and Lon Cecil (Libertarian). Watt supports decreases in military spending, and increases in spending on the arts, education, the environment, medical research, and welfare. He is for slight increases in alcohol, capital gains, cigarette, and gasoline taxes, as well as income taxes for high-income families. He supports raising the minimum wage, environmental regulations, a ban on assault rifles, and a public health insurance option.

On the record: “I certainly favor protecting our country against attacks from people or groups plotting to do our citizens harm. District 13 Representative: Brad Miller

Party: Democratic

Overview: Incumbent Brad Miller beat Republican challenger William Randall. His voting record has shown him to be more moderate Democrat. He supports capital punishment, restrictions on gun access, a public healthcare option, environmental regulations, and a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. He is against the privatization of social security.
