Senate Minutes March 14, 2007

Community Senate
3.14.2007 Moment of Silence

Steering Updates:
 ICC
o Project Communities project proposal to be decided in ICC
 SRC
o Sex and Spaghetti passed
 CAB
o Volunteer for Serendipity
 Communications Committee
o Senate Chalk!!!

 $26,000 left for the year

Old Proposals:
 Clown Club
o Based on loving people and making people happy, and therefore feeling better
o To go into community and share Guilford love!!!
o Make people smile and laugh
o Yearly trip on Spring break
o Connection with Patch Adams
o Have at least 10 people interested
o Mostly local
***Approved for new club status. Will get $250 for the remainder of this year.
 Work Trip: $622
o Chelsea Simpson requesting money for her Spring Break trip to the Philippians – recovering after Typhoon
o Sharing for two weeks, helped to build a school
o Asking to fund half of
o Proposal to go to SCC
o Why did you not come before the trip?
 Scheduling conflicts with meeting

New Proposals:
 Draw-A-Thon: $1,200
o Did last year, a very big success!!!
 Over 100 students came last year
o All night sketch group for all schools in triad to get together
 Sketch nude models, students had opportunity to sketch for 10 hours
o Last year got $1,000, this year getting $1,200
 Senate extended budget
o Breakdown? Is there a food issue?
 Event is on campus, so encouraged
o Brings together the community
 Glenhaven Photo Classes: $140
o Volunteers at Glenhaven, an apartment for mostly refugees
o Want to start a photo class
 Idea is to give kids outlet that’s fun that’s not a school or home situation
 Bring back what they want to express
 End product: an art show involving journals
o Wants to see this program grow and keep going – an on going service project.
o Lots of support from Senate

 Forum will be the 21st at 6pm in Boren lounge unless otherwise specified

 Elections will be held Tuesday the 27th from 9am-7pm.

Steward Awards Speaker Nominations
 Stewart Awards are for faculty – a great recognition
 Must represent Senate in the selection process
***Mallory Malkin and Tory Mallet to represent Senate

Tyson Visit / Teach-in Continuation
 On March 22, 2007 the Tysons will be joining the community to talk about Timothy Tyson’s book: Blood Done Sign My Name
 Program on race and reconciliation Thursday March 22, at 7 pm
 Get the word out!!!
