As a former student-athlete at Guilford I was distrubed to read the comments about getting rid of the football team and replacing it with a club. This may seem like a good idea when you look at the black and white numbers but have you ever been part of something bigger than yourself. I take pride in the athletic tradition at Guilford, I graduted 5 years ago and I still keep tabs on how the teams are doing. I think that by elminating the football team you may save money in the short term but you would alinate many alumni. I for one would not donate money to a school that claims to be rich in tradition but drops one of those traditions. Guilford would not be the same without its football team, it is a sense of pride for students. On a fall afternoon, there is nothing better than heading to Armfield Field and watching the Quakers. Anyway enough from this old alumni who likes to hold on to tradition, but Football should not become a club team.Melissa McKallagat
