I find it irritating and mildly offensive that Joanna Shunk feels comfortable insulting my body, demeaning my sexuality, and pretending to understand the way I think on the basis of my gender. In particular, I find it annoying because she delivered her diatribe in a way to intentionally play into male fears of sexual inadequacy, fears that feed into patterns of male sexual domination that oppress both men and women. In fact, by reinforcing the stereotypes of the domineering male versus the sensitive, emotional female, I would call her editorial profoundly anti-feminist.Despite the keen insights into male psychology that Ms. Shunk may have gleaned from Weezer and Kevin Smith movies, I respect lesbians and heterosexual women, and I think it is reasonable to ask for the same respect in return.
Sincerely,
Dan Gatti
