The Holden Ticket is dedicated to reforming Senate into a body that has open communication with all members of the Guilford Community, including faculty, CCE, and all minority groups. It is important that the student representative body be informed of the issues that are affecting all members of our community and that they have a supportive body to come forward and voice these issues. One of our missions for reform is changing the makeup of Senate to ensure a wider scope of representation. We feel the need for those members of the community who do not feel their voice is currently being heard to be represented in an effective manner. We are also dedicated to keeping the community informed, by utilizing campus media such as The Guilfordian. In conducting Senate business it is important that we preserve the Quaker process, because when used correctly it is superior to any other form of government. We are interested in having a Quaker representative as well as contact with Quaker community members to ensure that we are effective and proper in the way we go about Senate business. We want Senate to work as a collective body, where everyone is held in the light and valued as an equal voice. Our ticket believes it is the role of the President to be the acting clerk and facilitate communication in the Senate meetings, making sure that all members’ voices are heard and appreciated.
We as a ticket understand the work ahead, which is a difficult process, and we are dedicated to tackle the process. Each member of our ticket has experience in student organizations and government and has proven her or his dedication and reliability time and again. We want to strive to mold Senate into a functioning body. It will take hard work; it will be stressful at times; it will also be fun and a wonderful experience.
Our main goal is to change Senate from a free-flowing entity into a communication platform for the student body. All groups on campus need to have a place where they can communicate openly about any issues and voice their concerns. That is what Senate needs to be.
We are also interested in making sure that all security and safety issues or concerns have been addressed. We also want to foster a more open and interactive relationship with Union. It is important that all organizations and students on campus are made aware of all Senate business, and have the opportunity to voice their opinions.
