Finals week means stress. It means well-thumbed textbooks, frequent caffeine breaks, and late-night study sessions. It also means midnight hunger, and a moral dilemma. No dedicated student would abandon their books halfway through an all-nighter, but a growling stomach is hard to ignore.
Your solution? Our top five within five, reviewed for your culinary pleasure.
Wok ‘n’ Roll (855-0026, open until 11 p.m.)
When you think delivery, you think Chinese. The two have almost become synonymous in delivery-food culture. Wok ‘n’ Roll provides a wide selection of inexpensive food guaranteed to satisfy your midnight munchies. They offer combination options as well as individual entrees and sides. Wok ‘n’ Roll’s one flaw is the $10.00 delivery minimum, but with a decent appetite the restaurant’s minimum is anything but a deterrent. Will recommends the sesame chicken combo ($7.35) with some eggrolls ($1.10 each) to meet the requirement.
Little Italy (668-4414, open until 11 p.m.)
Little Italy may look little, but it delivers a large amount of food for not much money. Meredith recommends their most popular menu item (for a reason!) the medium spinach pizza ($9.99), a vegetarian favorite piled with sauce, cheese, tomatoes, and spinach. They too have a $10.00 delivery minimum, but the pizza is well worth the price. For something smaller, Little Italy boasts a long list of appetizers ranging from cheese fries to onion rings, all midnight snack standbys.
Steak Out (271-0855, open until 11 p.m.)
Steak Out is not your ordinary delivery destination. But behind their double doors lies one of the best delivery options available to the Guilford community. Steak Out is not exactly a vegetarian oasis aside from a small selection of side salads, but carnivores will appreciate the many, many variations of steak and mixed grill combinations. Will recommends the ribeye sandwich ($7.49) complete with lettuce and tomato. Steak Out has a $15.00 delivery minimum for the Guilford College area, so placing your order with a buddy is a safer bet.
Domino’s Pizza (854-1591, open until 11 p.m.) Though it doesn’t have as much local flavor as the Little Italys of the world, Domino’s remains a college favorite for a reason. They can always be counted on to deliver-literally. Everyone has a preferred style of pizza, but Meredith’s personal choice is the classic Hawaiian Feast, topped with pineapple and ham. A major perk for college students balancing a budget is the lack of delivery charge for orders of any size. Regardless of the size of your appetite or your wallet, Domino’s is sure to fulfill your midnight desires without busting your bank account. And the delivery is fast-you got, as they say, 30 minutes.
Jimmy John’s (292-4222, open until 3 a.m.)
Then, of course, there is good ol’ reliable Jimmy John’s. As if Jimmy John’s incredibly convenient hours weren’t enough to satisfy your delivery diet, their large selection of subs alongside cut-rate prices should place JJ’s atop most Guilford students’ list. Jimmy John’s freaky-fast delivery with no order minimum is a bonus for late-night study breaks and exam-time munchies. Will’s favorite is the Italian Night Club ($5.25). When other delivery hot spots close down for the night, the stalwart Jimmy John’s will be there in your time of need.
