Moving out: a checklist

It’s the end of the semester and it’s time to add packing and moving out to your already long to-do list. With a 24-hour deadline after finals, procrastination is not exactly a choice with this chore.
When to Leave:

-Graduating seniors must be out of residence halls by 8 p.m. May 7, the evening of commencement.

-All other students must leave the residence halls 24 hours after their last exam or 8 p.m. May 5, whichever date comes first.

-Students who are not graduating seniors but are involved directly with commencement may stay until May 7.

-If you have to stay beyond a designated checkout time, contact [email protected].

Checking out:

-All students must formally checkout by removing all personal belongings including, garbage, nails and tape on walls.

-Rooms must then be cleaned and checkout procedures can then proceed.

-First-floor lounges of all residence halls will be collecting donations, which will be dispersed to local charities.

Traditional Checkout:

-When you have removed all personal belongings RA’s will examine your room and then check you out.

-You can schedule a checkout appointment with your RA or sign- up during posted times on your RA’s room door.

-During this time RA’s will document any changes on your Room Condition Report and notify you of any anticipated charges.

-You may appeal any charges. Appeals must be received by Campus Life no later than June 30.

-Room keys will be turned into your RA upon completion of your room examination.

Express Checkout:

-Express checkout allows you to check out of your room without scheduling an appointment with your RA.

-Make sure to notify your RA that you will be using the express checkout.

-You must clean your room in accordance to the checkout checklist that all students received in their mailboxes.

-Acquire an envelope at the Security Bubble in which to place your key.

-Go to www.guilford.edu/housing in order to acquire an “Express Checkout waiver form.”

-Sign the waiver form.

-Place the key in the envelope, along with the waiver form, in the “drop box” located in first floor Bauman.

-RA’s will inspect your room when you are not present.

-Any charges filed against you cannot be appealed.

-Failure to complete checkout procedures will result in a $75 improper checkout fine.

Any charges made will be added to your student account.

When you leave:

-Doors and windows must be locked and lights turned off.

-Change of address cards can be acquired at the Mailroom in the basement of Founders.
