Jan. 20 marked President George W. Bush’s second inauguration – the second inauguration to attract thousands of protesters since Richard Nixon. People came to Washington D.C. from all over the country to show their disapproval for the Iraq war as well as the rest of Bush’s agenda by marching down Pennsylvania Ave. Here is a collection of photographs from the demonstration and inaugural parade. The actual parade took place in front of the barriers seen in the following photo. To get close, everyone had to pass through security, allowing guards to search personal belongings. Most of the attendees watched the parade from behind the bleachers, since only a certain amount of seats were available for purchase. The total cost of the inauguration, including the balls, added up to around $40 million – money that protesters wished had been spent on tsunami relief.
