To whom it may concern:
I enjoyed Alice Sharp’s article in the November 30th issue of the Guilfordian (GUILFORD’S POMPOUS UNDERBELLY). As a first year student at Guilford, I can still remember what brought me here: the idea of open-minded people supporting my ideas and opinions and even encouraging me to have my own personal ideals, different from any one else’s. Yet, as I’ve spoken with different people on campus, I’ve found myself repeatedly cut off by those who think that no one else can be right. Perhaps they are scared of others’ thoughts because it may prove them wrong, maybe they don’t feel the need to “waste” their time listening to what I have to say, or maybe they’re just assholes, I don’t know. I don’t think their reasons really matter, I just wish they’d let me finish a sentence and explain myself before they judge me or stamp me as wrong. So, I give props to Alice Sharp for bringing light to a problem that most people tend to ignore on this campus.
Thanks,
Kat Allen
