Already being referred to by promoters as the “thinking man’s pop tour,” the evening will feature the trademark organic Caedmon’s Call sound as well as Jars unique, award-winning musical style. Focused mainly on university campuses, the tour will perform locally at the Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC on Wednesday, April 2nd at 7:00 PM. “We’ve been looking forward to a tour like this for many seasons. Caedmon’s and Jars will be the perfect combo! I think audiences will have a great chance to get to know both bands more intimately,” remarks Jars of Clay’s keyboardist, Charlie Lowell.
“This tour has been a long time coming,” says Cliff Young, founding member and lead vocalist for Caedmon’s Call. “There are fans of both Jars of Clay and Caedmon’s Call who have never been exposed to the other band’s music. It will be exciting to play for those first-timers as well.”
“We’ve been really encouraged by the initial response to this tour,” says Third Coast Artists Agency president, Mike Snider. “There is great enthusiasm about the pairing of Jars and Caedmon’s, especially on college campuses. From universities like Wake Forest to Christian colleges like Liberty, this is the tour that their campuses are most eagerly anticipating.”
Known for its impressive grassroots following, largely comprised of devoted college-age fans nationwide, Caedmon’s Call’s first national, self-titled release set a record for the most units sold in its first week out by a debut contemporary Christian artist and was ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart. Since then, the band has amassed a stream of accolades, including an Album of the Year Dove Award, a Billboard Music Video Award nomination, six No. 1 radio singles, and sales approaching one million units. In the Company of Angels, the group’s last album and debut worship project, garnered a 2002 Dove Award nomination for Praise and Worship Album of the Year, as well as a nod for best Recorded Music Packaging. Caedmon’s Call is a regular contributor to the celebrated Dove Award-winning City On A Hill series and will release its fifth label project, Back Home, Feb. 4.
Jars of Clay’s self-produced and critically acclaimed The Eleventh Hour (March 2002) produced two No. 1 singles, “I Need You” and “Fly” and has been covered by media outlets including the TV Guide Channel, The CBS Early Show, The July cover of Music Biz Magazine, Teen People, and CNN’s “Music on the Road” and “Headline News.” In addition to its consistent 2002 touring schedule, Jars of Clay released its first DVD, 11 Live: Jars of Clay in Concert, Sept. 3. The DVD, also available on VHS, features almost two hours of performance footage, including a full concert setting and an intimate acoustic set plus behind-the-scenes interviews with the band. On Feb. 4, Jars of Clay will release its fifth major label project, a double album titled, Furthermore – From The Studio: From The Stage. The album is a collection of Jars of Clay favorites comprised of one disc of recorded over the course of their 2002 spring tour on one disc and in their studio featuring a total of 21 cuts.
Also joining the tour is independent singer/songwriter Randall Goodgame, who has been touring behind the release of his third album The Hymnal, garnering much critical acclaim and new fans enamored by his songwriting skill and prodigious musicianship. Music Row Magazine aptly compares his music to that of Paul Simon and Billy Joel, noting his “memorable melodies, ear-catching lyrics and personable vocals.”
