Staff Editorial: Goals for second half

Staff Editorial: Goals for second half

We have reached the second half of Volume 105 of The Guilfordian and the editorial board would like to reinforce our commitment to fair and accurate reporting.

Each semester, we are gifted with new staff members and many writers who are diving into the journalistic style of writing for the first time. We want to provide good examples for them in order to preserve the integrity and precision of reporting for The Guilfordian’s future editions as these members move up in the organization.

As a student-run publication, we are guided by the seven core values of Guilford College: community, diversity, equality, excellence, integrity, justice and stewardship.

We invite the community to join us in this mission. There are a multitude of roles to get involved in with The Guilfordian. Studants have the opportunities to hone their skills writers and photographer, join the layout staff or be a copy editor, work with the website and our multiple social media platforms, shoot videos our videography team or help us uphold our core values with our social justice team. But in all fields, we want to emphasize our commitment to maintaining our accuracy as journalists.

We are excited to start 2019 the right way. We will provide you with a diverse range of stories, but all will be reported with integrity and provide a high-quality, reliable, informative and entertaining narratives.

In an era where journalists find themselves constantly scrutinized, The Guilfordian maintains that the purpose of news is to serve the community uncompromisingly.

Reflecting Guilford College’s core Quaker values, the topics and content of Staff Editorials are chosen through consensus of all 13 editors and one faculty adviser of The Guilfordian’s Editorial Board.
