The Guilfordian was awarded “First Place with Special Merit” in the 2007-2008 American Scholastic Press Association’s annual journalism contest. According to the ASPA the award is given to, “school publications with special and outstanding design and content.” It is the highest honor given by the ASPA and the highest contest ranking the Guilfordian has ever received. The Guilfordian is the only school in North Carolina to win the award with special merit, but shares the distinction with 80 other schools across the nation. The award is accompanied by the Guilfordian’s two Dick Dyer awards, one for Most Active Club and for Jeff Jeske’s outstanding faculty advising. These awards were presented on April 21. Editor-in-Chief Josh Cohen said, “I’m very honored by this award. It reflects the hard work the entire staff has put in this year to produce a quality publication that successfully serves its role in the Guilford Community.
