Dust off the record books and break out a pen, our Guilford men’s basketball team is making history. Marking the program’s longest winning streak since the 1974-75 season, the Quakers won their 13th straight contest in their last home game of the season. They look to extend that streak as they head into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament, in a position unfamiliar to Guilford basketball. For the first time in school history, the Quakers captured the ODAC crown and with it a first place bid in tournament action.
Ranked 12th nationally, the squad holds high expectations for both the ODAC tournament and the NCAA championship beyond, but their season’s culmination is bitter-sweet. Although each win brings the team closer to a championship, it sadly nears the end of the four brilliant Guilford careers of seniors Ray Edmond, Eric Belkoski, Caleb Kimbrough, and Ben Strong.
Compiling numerous records and awards of their own, these four young men have not only guided their team to success; they’ve helped shape Guilford basketball into a championship caliber program that is both feared and respected.
As they head into playoffs, let’s stand behind our Quakers and take pride in their accomplishments. And while we celebrate their triumphs, let’s thank our seniors for an amazing four years. Their hard work and dedication is producing results both tangible today and promising for the future.
This men’s basketball team has accomplished so much already, but that’s just the beginning. They can keep that winning streak alive, break even more records, and keep our seniors on the court as long as possible with hard work and community support.
So get it done guys; bring home that trophy. And go Quakers!
