Laundromat review: Suds & Duds

Those of you who think doing laundry is a chore need to check out two places: Suds and Duds and the Wash Pub.
Located at 2114 Walker Ave, Suds and Duds is a little too far to walk – especially with a sack full of laundry. But beg, whine, and coerce your friends with cars, because this place is great for throwing your clothes in the washer and then forgetting about them. There are plenty of distractions available.
“The best reason to come here is the fact that I haven’t changed my washer and dryer prices since we opened in 1988,” says Bill Wardle, counting the virtues of his huge Laundromat. From $1.75-3.75 a load, Suds and Duds is about on par with other wash and dry facilities in the area. But do other places have big-screen TVs and drink specials?
On a recent Sunday morning you would have found Wardle and several regular patrons enjoying a John Wayne movie while their clothes tumbled away in the dryers or wrinkled while they waited to be folded because the viewer was a little too involved in a horse chase scene.
Besides being extremely clean and well lit, Suds and Duds is also located on a corner with other attractions: several bars and a coffee shop. So take your laundry down, or just stop by and have a drink and a game of pinball.
Many of you may already be familiar with the Wash Pub across the street from Guilford in The Quaker Village Shopping Center. Although not as large as Suds and Duds, the Wash Pub has the decided edge in the distance war. You could conceivably carry (or drag) your unmentionables.
The Wash Pub has all the usual washers and dryers and the same prices as other laundromats with one added bonus: Galaga! To those of you out there who are not familiar with this hallowed ’80s video game, get thee to the Laundromat! Save the world from aliens while you get rid of the stains on your shirts.
And for the thirsty college students looking for clean clothes, the Wash Pub also serves soda and beer. For your added enjoyment, a pool table is available: you could learn how to be a pool shark and not smell. How can you beat that?
The only thing about the Wash Pub in comparison to other similar businesses in the area is that it’s pretty small. You might have to catch it at an off-hour to be able to clean your whole wardrobe at once.
There you are, Guilford. There’s no reason for ants in your pants or stains under your arms. With my tips, laundry just got fun.
