Background: After graduating from law school in 1975, Vladimir Putin began working for the KGB, where he retired 15 years later with the rank of colonel. The early 90’s saw a lot of changes for Putin, who quickly worked his way up St. Petersburg’s political ladder, claiming the post of vice-mayor in 1994. In 1999 Putin was appointed prime minister and later, chosen as President.Spotlight: Putin has worked hard to make significant gains with the United States and with President Bush. However, he is not happy with Bush’s latest “axis of evil” speech and has told the U.S. to stay out of Iraq.
