"The one I wanted the most was taken, and that was Community Drive," said Jonathan Varnell, associate vice president of operations and facilities.
Shaina Anderson, a senior, did not know about the survey but did like several names from the tentative list. Of the historical names such as Elizabeth Fry, George Fox and Levi Coffin, she said, "these names will stand with the history, qualities, goals, and principles of this campus."
Elizabeth Fry is one of Chabotar's favorite road names. "I realized how important she was in the background of prison reform, and since half of our students are female it is nice to have a name that recognizes the fact that we are a diverse campus."
Chabotar also said that because of his contribution and connection to the Underground Railroad, "Levi Coffin was the easiest call as someone who was overdue recognition."
The board of trustees will meet in late February to finalize the names. The signs will go into production if the board reaches a consensus. According to Varnell, a local sign company will manufacture the signs, which could possibly be erected by semester's end.
