Talk back: Letter to the Editor (Reaction to aid cuts)
Issue date: 4/8/05 Section: News

To the Editor:
I am a parent of a sophomore student at Guilford. I was appalled to read that merit-based aid could be cut 25 percent for the next school year.
Due to the amount of aid that my student receives, including merit aid, a cut would make it extremely difficult for him to return to Guilford as we are a working-class family who must really strain to help him pay his tuition despite the generosity of Guilford's programs.
He is also a Bonner student who takes his responsibility to "give back" to the community very seriously.
I strongly hope that this issue will be revisited and perhaps either modified or have it take effect over a longer period of time. My son loves Guilford and definitely wants to graduate from your fine institution. I am aware that things are constantly changing in our world but I firmly believe that our youth are the best hope for our future.
Education is a definite necessity in our rapidly evolving economy. Please consider this issue very carefully as I know many other students would be impacted if this change was made.
Sincerely yours,
Debby O. Wallace
