Community Senate update

A.Q. Abdul-Karim

Issue date: 3/25/05 Section: News
"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."

- Aristotle

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENT CLUBS

As was announced in Tuesday's Guilford Buzz, the new 2005-2006 Senate and Union officers have been elected. Ali Stewart (President), Leise Gergely (Vice President), John Holt (Treasurer), and Lily Sharpless (Secretary) make up the new Senate executive staff, While Lauren Demarest (President), Tim McLaughlin (Vice President), Grace Boyle (Treasurer), Mati Stern (Secretary), comprise the new Union planning board. By now you may have heard that this year's was a particularly close race for Union, with only a couple of votes separating the tickets.

For all those interested in running for Steering Committee (advisory council to Community Senate) information about applications will be available next week. For more details please contact Ali Stewart.

Congratulations to all whom ran, as evident in Tuesday's polls you have distinguished yourselves as leaders on this campus and I hope that this spirit of leadership grows as we enter into next year.

As some of the most challenging student positions on campus, make sure to show your appreciation to those elected for taking on the responsibility and working towards our benefit. Please join us 3:00 p.m. on Apr. 23 at the leadership reception (yes that means food), where Dick Dyer awards will be given out and the new officers will be formally introduced. The procession will begin shortly after the mandatory Student Leadership retreat scheduled for 12pm the same day.

As we begin counting down the weeks remaining this semester, I want to remind all student clubs and organizations about some upcoming events. BUDGET HEARINGS are scheduled for 8-9 Apr. A sign up sheet will be posted on the Senate door, and hearing scheduling will be first come first serve. IF YOU FAIL TO SCHEDULE A HEARING YOUR CLUB WILL NOT BE ALLOCATED FUNDS FOR NEXT YEAR. If there is a conflict with the meeting times please contact Spencer Witherspoon (Senate Treasurer) ASAP, to work out an alternate time.
