The problems that exist in the world today cannot be solved by the level of thinking that created them."

As some may already know, next week Guilford College will once again welcome its Board of Trustees for their quarterly visit and updates from the College.
No surprise, one of the main topics covered will be progress on the Strategic Long Range Plan. Other areas of interest will be the new residential halls, 2005-2006 tuition and fees, and discussion of the "Guilford Masterplan."
For those who are not aware, Board of Trustee (BOTs) meetings are comprised of several committee meetings, a retreat, a trustees-only meeting and several smaller events in honor of the trustees. This happens once every quarter and is almost always held on campus. Highlights are the Trustee's luncheon, visits to classes and the general awe and splendor of having some of our major donors on campus (seriously).
To better familiarize our students and community with the BOT process I wanted to share with you the major committees that meet in these weekends and some general issues they look at. Majority are self explanatory so I'll try to keep my descriptions brief.
First and foremost is the Trusteeship and Governance Committee, which is the core BOT group. This committee is almost entirely made up of the trustees, with exception of Kent and other invited guests.
Other Committees include: the Advancement Committee,: focusing on alumni relations, fundraising and capital projects with senior leaders as trustee Dalton Mcmicheal, and Anne Hurd (Director of Development); the Investment Committee, with senior leadership by trustee Ed Bauman and Chief Financial Officer Gerry Boothby and student representative Bram Verweij (Student Residence Hall Council Chair).
Additional, the Academic Affairs Committee, which covers topics ranging from new classes to tenure, led by trustee Charlotte Roberts and VP and Academic Dean Adrienne Isreal. The Buildings and Grounds Committee covers all issues pertaining to campus infrastructure, led by board chair Stan Frank, Gerry Boothby, and Director of Facilities John Varnell, student representative Laura Wigand (VP Community Senate).
