Robbie Perkins

This candidate provided information to The Guilfordian via email.

Age: 56

Party: Republican

Lived in Greensboro: 32 years

Incumbent or challenger: Challenger

What is your position on the White Street Landfill?

Perkins wants to “develop a long term solution to solid waste disposal that does not include re-opening White Street.” Perkins said, “This solution would ultimately involve increasing the percentage of the waste stream that we recycle and participating in a true regional partnership that would solve the region’s disposal needs long term.”

What is your plan for economic progression in Greensboro?

As Mayor, Perkins said that he would “promote Greensboro to its citizens to build confidence that we can be successful with small businesses as well as working regionally on ‘game changing’ concepts such as the aerotropolis project at the airport and the engineering/nanotech cluster developing off of East Lee Street.” He reminded that you can see www.robbieperkins.com for more information.

How do you plan to reach out to college students to get them more involved in civic life?

Perkins wants to “Continue to develop our downtown as the “heart and soul” of our community, creating an environment that allows a unique place to live, work and play.”

What changes do you want to see in the city during your time in office?

As Mayor, Perkins would help facilitate “much better communication between the mayor and the council.” He advocates “returning to the council/manager form of government” and “working together as one city to develop a shared vision for Greensboro.” The mayor and council, he said, should be “focusing on our priorities of economic development, public safety and infrastructure rather than being distracted by issues that divide Greensboro.”
